A 1-Aug-90 list of ftp sites by Jon Granrose can be obtained eg from
chyde.uwasa.fi by anonymous ftp as /pc/doc/ftpsites.lst, or
/pc/pd2/ftpsites.arc.  Or scan through comp.sources.wanted for a
message from Jon.
