I would like to create a white (or anything but transparent)
application window as a background for 
sub-windows that will not fill the whole area of the window. At the
moment I can just cope with filling the blank areas with empty
GroupWindows but if the blank areas are a complicated shape that
involves too much work.

Any help/comments/suggestions/code (source only please) appreciated.
