Whatever its technical merits and demerits PostScript is strategically
well-positioned because everybody translates into it already.

If you are willing to assume that a PostScript program's only purpose
is to render a set of pages in finite time, then it can be distilled
down into a simple canonical form that is much more amenable to
processing. This, of course, is true of any language.
