Problem in UUCP link.

Machine A (Sun) polls Machine B (MicroVax/Ultrix) thus:

 A - modem - PSDN X.25 PAD - PSDN  - leased line - X.25 switch - B
            (PAD profile 3)

Call is established ok, protocol negotiated successfully etc.
File transfers queued at A for B are transferred ok.
However files at B for collection by A file file.
The following is an extract from B's LOGFILE after attempting file
transfers in both directions:

ulloyd lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) incoming call (on /dev/tty11)
ulloyd lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) OK startup
ulloyd lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) REQUESTED (S /home/tom/x ~uucp/x)
colum lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) REQUEST (S /usr/users/colum/hello ~uucp/hello)
colum lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) BAD READ1 (expected 'S' got FAIL)
colum lloydre (8/15-13:50-22454) FAILED (conversation complete)

As you can see, file 'x' is transferred from A to B successfully and 
file 'hello' from B to A fails.  Sometimes part of the transfer is
successful - A receives up to half of the incoming file before the fail
occurs.  This is the case for all such files.
B is polled by many machines in a similar manner without problems and
B's configuration for A seems correct.

So - any ideas?
