According to the manual for my Archive VP150 drive (a nice drive when it works) there are small holes punched in the tape near the beginning and end of the tape so the drive can identify BOT and EOT. The spacing of the BOT holes is different on the two kinds of tape, and the Archive drive adapts automatically. It will write in 150MB mode on a 6150 tape, and 120MB mode on a DC600 tape. I haven't tried to read the 120MB tapes on a QIC-24 drive, but the drive maker at least expects it to work. Regards, John Levine, johnl@esegue.segue.boston.ma.us, {spdcc|ima|world}!esegue!johnl
