We use a tool developed by Dave Curry @ SRI called: nfswatch. It's available from unix.sri.com for anonymous ftp. It shows information in the following manner: ======================================================================== ============ hostname.domain.universe Wed Aug 15 10:36:07 1990 Elapsed time: 00:02:40 Interval packets: 1686 (network) 1460 (to host) 0 (dropped) Total packets: 16573 (network) 12915 (to host) 0 (dropped) int pct total int pct total ND Read 0 0% 0 TCP Packets 43 3% 466 ND Write 0 0% 0 UDP Packets 1140 78% 9250 NFS Read 1053 72% 8643 ICMP Packets 0 0% 6 NFS Write 0 0% 12 Routing Control 2 0% 32 NFS Mount 0 0% 0 Address Resolution 6 0% 88 Yellow Pages 0 0% 0 Reverse Addr Resol 0 0% 14 RPC Authorization 0 0% 0 Ethernet Broadcast 11 1% 160 Other RPC Packets 74 5% 539 Other Packets 271 19% 3091 File Sys int pct total File Sys int pct total / 0 0% 0 /foo 1053 100% 8645 /bar 0 0% 0 /name 0 0% 10 This is a handy tool when trying to analyze where the "hits" are coming to/from. It has a lot more information that can be gathered, depending on command line flags that you use!! Steven C. Blair Network Operations Center SynOptics Communications Inc.
