Thanks to all of the folks that responded to my message requesting
assistance with the sendmail command.  I was getting a mail is being
deferred message from sendmail.

The problem turned out to be my machine name.  The machine which was
rejecting the mail was called 600g.  Apparently, when a remote machine name
starts with numerics and your local machine send it mail, sendmail sees the
numerics and interprets it.

I saw this when I ran sendmail with the -v command.  As soon as the machine
was renamed to sms600 and the sendmail process was killed and restarted 
the problem disappeared.
