I was getting a mail is being deferred message from sendmail. The problem turned out to be my machine name. The machine which was rejecting the mail was called 600g. Apparently, when a remote machine name starts with numerics and your local machine send it mail, sendmail sees the numerics and interprets it. I saw this when I ran sendmail with the -v command. As soon as the machine was renamed to sms600 and the sendmail process was killed and restarted the problem disappeared. Again, thanks to all that helped me figure this out!!!! Luis F.
