I have never *once* had a POST turn up any problems with any memory. I have on occasion had bad memory chips, and I've got plenty of diagnostic software to help me find it. Considering that, if I'm at the keyboard, I'll skip the POST by hitting Esc anyway, I don't really care how "stringent" it is.
