The Sony 1304 is the only monitor in the price range that can handle 1024x768 in non-interlace. What this means is it's not prone to flicker like other interlace monitors at the same resolution. Unfortunately to take advantage of this capability, you have to get a VGA board that can run at non-interlace (ie. Video7, Orchird, ATI, etc.). The 1304 is a 14" multisyncing .25mm dot pitch analog monitor. It is not able to scan below 31 KHz, so it can't be used with any CGA or EGA cards (but then again, it's inputs are only analog, not digital). This is NOT a problem since most decent VGA cards will double overscan the 320x200 CGA resolution into 320x400 to work with VGA monitors at 31 KHz. The .25mm dot pitch means each trinary color set is spaced .25mm apart. In the Sony trinitron tube, the mask is slotted with each color dot spaced like this: |||. Each | is red, green, blue respectively. In terms of horizontal resolution, no other monitor comes close because of this mask scheme. However the vertical resolution is not much better then others because of the slotted mask. Well regardless, I love mine. It works great with my VRAM board and even though it doesn't have the nifty "memory" feature of the NEC 3D, I find I don't need it anyway, because all my resolutions CGA to SuperVGA are sized just fine.
