At 1200 baud it works great; I have accessed boards all over the country with no difficulty. But at 2400 baud I get lots of noise. The noise seems to be on the receiving end, i.e., I see lots of noise characters on stuff that's echoed to me but the boards on the other end seem to get everything I send OK. I've tried several different boards and have always had the same problem but I've had no problems at 1200 baud. I know that noise is a bigger problem at 2400 baud than at 1200 baud but how do I tell if there is something more seriously wrong with the modem? None of the boards I accessed are "local" they are all in at least another area-code if not in another state. The only BBS's that I know of in my area code (508) are actually farther away than the ones in other area codes (like 603 or 617), so I'm sure there is a certain amount of noise, but I don't know what's reasonable. I bought a 2400 baud modem to reduce long-distance charges! Thanks in advance. ---Peter
