There should be a Script Mgr call to handle this in Sys 7, but Sys 7 will ship with a popup CDEF anyway. For the case with a menu width < the item rect, you should erase the item rect before calling _PopupMenuSelect so it won't look ugly. If it kills you to do things this way, axe the arrow.
