    1) what is estimated time of release for X11 rev 5.

No comment, or "probably sometime in 1991", whichever you prefer.

    2) I had heard that the authors of X Windows System: C Library
       and Protocol Reference  were supposed to update the book for rev 4.

The book is now out, copies were on display at SIGGRAPH last week.
