After payment of $50,000.00 cash, the patient died shortly after the operation. Dr. Alonso was detained by the Mexican authorities for not having permission to conduct experimental proceedures at the Mexican hospital. Alonso is currenly being investigated, and will be the subject of an in-depth examination by CNN. Despite the fact that the patient died, his family has made statements indicating that they still believe hyperthermia to be a viable treatment.
