You are a professor of Chinese.  You give the Chinese Room the final exam
for your most difficult course, and it passes with flying colors.  Does it
>understand< Chinese?  Well, ummm, lets debate that for a few millenia.  It
earns an A though, and it didn't even have to study!  I'll hire a Chinese
room to act as my translator and interpreter anyday.  Whether or not it
understands (whatever the hell people want that to mean) is moot.  I'll be
back with a more complete version of this argument.
