Currently, we use X.25 and PADs to connect a few users from
Switzerland to Frankfurt.  I am designing our future network
which will hopefully use X.25 more efficiently.

How long does it take to setup a switched virtual circuit,
realistically?  In order to make X.25 cost effective, I am
planning to disconnect the circuit from the user to our host
during off hours of the day.  But what happens when the user
wants to reconnect at a strange hour?  

Any experiences you have with X.25 and the PTT would be appreciated.

P.S. When is it economical to switch from the public network to a
private one?
