Just for yux, let's look at the history of REXX (from my best sources
anyway.)
 
1979  Mike Cowlishaw begins a "single man enterprise" with hundreds of
      IBM'ers contributing.
 
1983  REXX became THE Command Language for VM/CMS
 
1987  REXX becomes IBM's SAA Procedures Language
 
1988  MVS environment supports REXX
 
1989  IBM announces the CMS REXX compiler (Developed by IBM Vienna
      Software Development Lab)
 
      IBM announces REXX for OS/2 and OS/400
