My problem lies in the fact that its DMA controller chip, a Signetics SCB68430CAN48, runs too hot. The problem was fixed by placing a heat sink on it (avail. at places like Radio Shack). Also, it is crucial that the cover is on your Amiga 2000 (I assume this is what you have) when it's turned on for proper air flow.
