I have an early Apple IIc, and I just bought a 2400 baud modem. I could see from the indicator lights that I was sending and receiving data, but there was no output to my moitor. After many phone calls, I was told that Apple recognized a problem with the IIc's serial ports, and they would cover the charges for a motherboard replacement. My local dealer was able to make the repair. I was disappointed when this did not releave my problem, and it was then I discovered that the IIc requires a null modem cable. I just thought you might be interested in hearing about Apple picking up the bill.
