MiNT is a multitasking extension for TOS. It comes with complete C source code and is freeware (but *not* public domain -- see the docs). Some of the features it has are: pipes, pseudo-ttys, named FIFOs, BSD-like signal handling, fork() and vfork() system calls, job control, special pseudo-drives (for accessing FIFOs, BIOS devices, and processes -- you can delete or rename a process by doing the appropriate thing to the entry on the pseudo-drive), and other Unix-like features. Since this is beta-test software, I would caution you to get it only if you're a reasonably experienced programmer. I will be posting MiNT to the sources and binaries groups sometime in September, if all goes well; in the meantime I would be very interested in hearing of any bugs and in suggestions for improvements. -- Eric R.
