I use it frequently between my laptop and desk machines. It works well, doesn't take up much memory space, and doesn't cause any problems even when the network is not in use, or the cable is disconnected. The only potential problem is that the documentation is a little sketchy. If you some background setting up serial connections you shouldn't have any problems.
