I want to use the serial port (printer port) on my mac. I have managed to find a copy of the instructions on how to modify the standard Apple LaserWriter driver to use the serial port, but this set up didn't work for me. I would get PS ERROR 18 on the printer. I think there is simply something wrong with my cable which I made myself. I only used 5 pins of the Din-8 and RS-232 connectors. Unfortunately I can't get the Din-8 connector appart and can't remember the pins I used, but I do have the pins of the RS-232 that I used. They are pins 2 (TD), 3 (RD), 6 (DSR), 7 (GND), and 20 (DTR). So the questions are: 1. What is the correct pin connections for a serial cable from the mac printer port to the serial port of the HP LaserJet IIP? 2. Has anyone successfully used a HP LaserLet IIP with a postscript cartridge, but without the AppleTalk Card? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks! Mike Judy judy@janus.berkeley.edu
