First, DiskDoubler, one of the hotest sellers at Boston MacWorld wasn't tested. Secondly, there are no timings... this might be a key issue... so, I'll just whip up the test I did myself. ============================================================================ Files used: Zterm package: Application = 144K Doc (write) = 54K Doc (write) = 4K Zterm doc = 1K Text doc = 4K Text doc = 3K Text doc = 3K Total = 213K ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- App & | | | | | | method | STD | STD | Compactor| DskDoublr| DskDoublr| Test | Fast | Better | | method A | method B | ============================================================================= TEST: UNCOMPRESSION | | | | of files in | 1:03 | 0:41 | 0:56 | Stuffit 1.5.1 | | | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEST: COMPRESS | 1:25 | 6:36 | 1:57 | 0:56 | 1:38 | | 140K | 110K | 109K | 146K | 125K | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEST: UNCOMPRESSION | 1:15 | 1:53 | 1:08 | 0:39 | 1:51 | of files in their | 1:15 | 1:53 | 1:08 | 0:39 | 1:51 | own format | | | | | | ============================================================================= I hope this makes sense. The two uncompression tests are time tests, while the compression test is both time and size. This test is far from complete. I want to test Diamond, and test more files, sound files, graphic files. I also want to do a report on the ups and downs of the feature selection, user interface, and price, all of which are important as the numbers. - Chris ._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._.._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._.
