I got one response that pointed me to the rewritten sound manager
document at apple.com, but unfortunately, it is HQXed, SITed, and
MSWORDed. 
I managed to get it to a .bin file, but don't know any mac users
who are network/telecom smart, I don't know how telecom smart
a mac is "out of the box," and I don't know if MSWORD comes standard.

Can someone provide me with a copy of this file in a format
suitable for direct printing?  HP laserjet PCL would be nice, but I can
also do dvi, and maybe even postscript. If it is in laserwriter format,
I might be able to figure out how to get it onto a friend's mac and
printed...
