Sounds like you may have an INIT conflict. Disable several of the "questionable" ones, restart, and see if the problem persists. You might want to up the Finder's memory allocation (click on the Finder, and Get Info to set the application's memory size). If neither of these options help, boot from a System Tools disk, trash your current System & Finder, and install "fresh" copies. You'd be amazed at the weird things that happen when the System file (or an application, for that matter) gets partially trashed...
