Try substituting this for your set standout mode.
	smso=\E`6\E)
I forget where i got this ( might have been right here in comp.terminals )
but it solves the problem you describe.  
I have a Bell Tech machine running SysV3.2u, our two versions may well
have the same bugs.   tom katke...
