A simple example of what I mean is: $ ls /bin /usr/bin /usr/local/bin $ cd !!:2 and now being able to press some sequence to expand the current line to $ cd /usr/bin and allow me to continue editing the line? While I'm here, is there a user manual for bash around nowadays? Many thanks, Stuart. Stuart J.
