(I may have the names Protector & Terra Nova reversed. Apologies in advance for any errors in my notes taken whilst driving listening to the radio.) Main armament is 2+3 Sea-King helicopters and anti-shipping missiles, (supposedly also effective against Exocets, if I belived my notes!). The supply ship has "ship to ship gunnery capability" which I believe means it has a multi-purpose turret. These ships are coming off an excelerated re-fit. They now have Vulcan Phalanx close-in weapons systems, upgrdade E-W "including decoy". They figure to steam 7k miles via Suez at cruising speed in 3 weeks; if things heat up, they'll switch to full-steam. If they have to take it around the horn (if Egypt denies passage), it would be 11k miles. -- /bill ricker/ wdr@wang.com a/k/a wricker@northeastern.edu *** Warning: This account not authorized to express opinions ***
