Will someone please describe the Patriot air defense missile and its 
capabilities?

I heard on the news that the US has Patriot air defense missiles at bases in
Saudi Arabia.  I also heard that they "can defend against" the 300-mile-range
SCUD missiles that Iraq has.  Is this true?
