EDT and TPU are both hardcoded for VTxxx terminals. They put it in because everyone was whining for them to do it, but it is too slow to use for anything intensive as editting. It is used for other things, which is why I know it is so slow (the debugger leaps immediately to mind). The bottom line is DEC really doesn't want you using non-DEC terminals.
