You are correct that most fonts do not support the IBM pc extended character set (aka code page 437). To obtain these characters, you must select/highlight the desired text and format it for the "Linedraw" font. With Word 5.0, this should automatically happen when you attempt to use the "Format Border" command or the Cursor Linedraw (Ctrl-F5) feature. However, if you change printer drivers after creating the doc, format the entire doc for a different font, etc., it may be necessary to re-apply this character formating.
