how about reading the manual?  it specifically says that you need to place 
in your .forward file:

	\mylogin, "|vacation mylogin"

i'm not sure if vacation actually uses the login name argument, but
having it there keeps the recipients from being suppressed because 
everybody's login name is different.

just a system administrator...
