Does anyone know of a commercially available RS-485 to fiber optic converter? This converter (or fiber optic modem) would allow me to extend RS-485 over the 4000 ft. limit. By the way, RS-485 is a specification that allows RS-422 differential signals to be used in a multi-drop (bus) configuration. Now I'm really dreaming! Does anyone know of a commercially available fiber optic RS-485 concentrator/multiplexor? This device would allow several RS-485 copper segments to plug into it, and it would convert these signals into a fiber optic signal. Thanks in advance! By the way, is there another news group that I should post this question to (ie: communications.protocol)? The following pictures show what I actually want to do. ************ * TERMINAL * ******** ******** ***** *CONTROLLER*--------*485/FO*=========*FO/485*--------*DTE* * (DCE) * RS-485 ******** Fiber ******** RS-485 ***** ************ ************ ************** * TERMINAL * ******** * * *CONTROLLER*--------*485/FO*=========* RS-485 * * (DCE) * RS-485 ******** Fiber *CONCENTRATOR* ************ ************** | | . . . | | | | RS-485 | | | ***** | ***** *DTE* | *DTE* ***** | ***** | ***** *DTE* ***** -- John Butala CIM Systems Integration Center, NCR CI/MEG Division - Wichita NCR:654-6018 (316) 636-6018
