I'll answer my own question about getting the Acid2 demo to work.

I wrote out a nice long message detailing how I figured out how to get
it to work, and then I deleted it.  Argh!  So you'll get the 
abbreviated version.  :^)
 
You must change the scan rate to 50Hz to get it to work.  I loaded 
BoingSTe, quit it, and then loaded Acid2.
 
Is there any chance of damaging the monitor when changing the scan 
rate from 60Hz to 50Hz?
