Its capacity is 10 megabytes only if you take a megabyte as ten million characters. And CHKDSK would not help much since I have the disk divided into MS-DOS and CP/M partitions. WUTIL does give the size. You can also do the calculation: Multiply 306 tracks by 4 (the number of heads) by 16 (the number of sectors per track) by 512 (the number of characters per sector). I suggest we leave arguments about language and go back to my original question: Has anyone found a way to use the extra memory in the Suitable Solutions' memory board for the Rainbow? - --- Opus-CBCS 1.12 * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (1:343/3.0) ------------------------------ Date: 08-25-90 (23:54) To: FRANK ZSITVAY Subject: RE: HARDDISC From: DAVID MAROUN I had a similar problem when I tried to format a 20 megabyte hard disk with the utility supplied with the DEC 10 megabyte hard disk. But WUTIL formatted the disk. I suspect that the DEC-supplied hard disk utility was not intended for disks larger than 10 megabytes. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.12 * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (1:343/3.0) ------------------------------ Date: 08-25-90 (23:57) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: LZEXE From: DAVID MAROUN You might be interested in knowing that I have started using LZEXE. It reduced SEDT version 3.3(248) to a little over half its original size, and the program seems (so far, anyway) to be working. I also used LZEXE in my own programming. Verion 4.1 of my XTRAC utility lost thousands of characters thanks to LZEXE I wrote to Fabrice Bellard suggesting he produce a generic version of his program (I happen to speak French). I have had no reply, so I do not know whether he will produce one. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.12 * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (1:343/3.0) ------------------------------ Date: 08-25-90 (22:23) To: FRANK MALLLRY Subject: RAINBOW WORKSCLOCK From: DAVE GOW Thanks for the upload, my clock works great and had been keeping almost perfect time for the past several years in storage. It also works perfectly with DOS 3.1b and Code Blue I got just before suitable solutions went out od business. It properly date stamps IBM PCFILE+ databases underCode Blue and is easy to reset. Thanks again!! - --- Opus-CBCS 1.12 * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (1:343/3.0) ------------------------------ Date: 08-29-90 (07:34) To: DAVID MAROUN Subject: RE: EXTENDED MEMORY ONA From: GEORGE THEALL DM>One comment: I have a 10 megabyte RD51. Given Warner Losh's posting on the subject, it sounds like we've both been correct. As for your original question, I haven't. Question, though, how many and what type of memory chips are on that board? Would they be 1MBit chips per chance? My guess is some of that extra memory is hidden from view by things like the Rainbow's video RAM, which is located in segments EE00 - EF00 (952K - 960K). It is similar to LZEXE but comes with docs/prompts in English. George ------------------------------
