I got quite a bit of email from that comment. Apparently some of you have tried to obtain an HP-UX source code license but without much luck. Rather than answer the email individually, I thought that I'd just post. Here's what I know about the license. First you must have an AT&T source license. After that you can obtain a source license for a major release of HP-UX such as 3.0, 7.0, etc. There is no way to obtain the source for a minor release such as 3.1. Each release costs $25,000. I do not know if there is any kind of special deal for educational institutions. At present we have the source code for 3.0 but our management is balking at the thought of another $25,000 for 7.0. The product contains code for the stuff that comes with HP-UX. The kernel, drivers, libraries, and commands are all there. The compilers are missing, HP won't release the source code to these under any condition. (At least that's what they told us.) The source code for other products such as Netlink, ARPA/Berkeley, NFS, X, are also not present. I assume that they are available separately, but we have never tried to obtain them. Some of you wanted to know who to contact. We obtained the source code through our saleman. I assume that you should contact yours.
