A while ago the machine would not read the internal hard drive. Using the silverlining program, it appeared that the hard drive was defective. So I bought a new external hard drive. I formatted the drive, my mac recognized it, but within the first half hour of use, the machine suddenly recognized both the new external and old internal drive simultaneously. I could not perform any functions on the mac and both drives were spinning continuously. I switched off the mac. Upon turning on the mac again, the mac began to produce smoke. I immediately turned off the mac. Half an hour later I turned on the mac again, and it recognized the external drive, but as soon as I tried to perform a function, the mac would not respond. Help! In particular, has anyone out there had similar problems with the hard drive? Do you think this might be a problem with the hard drive controller? Why did the mac start to smoke?
