They plan on using Shannon-Fano trees rather than LZW, which Unisys claim to have a patent on the algorithm (rather than just the implementaion they describe). The FSF method would be completly free. Software patents are bad news, this one particularly so. Has Allandin started paying their dues to Unisys?
