I had problems too. MacWrite II would hang at a certain point in the document. MacWrite 5.0 loaded it OK, until I came to print, when it reported that it was having trouble reading in some of the paragraphs. Sure enough, at various points in the document (both on screen and on paper), it said "THIS PARAGRAPH COULD NOT BE READ IN FROM DISK". I had similar problems with either the June or April tech notes.
