  This is the result of a compatability problem between R3 xterm and the
R4 server.  R3 xterm had a bug that the R3 server was not checking for.
The R4 server now checks.  You can turn off checking by starting the
server with the bc flag, or run 'xset bc'.  Or you could get IRIX 3.3
for your IRIS, since it has R4 xterm.
