At the risk of making a blatant plug:
HP sells a card called the IGC-20 which uses a TI 34020 and will
take you up to 1280x1024x256 colors.  The base model lists at
roughly $2500 (LIST price, NOT STREET price, which is sure to 
be significantly lower).  To run at 1280x1024x256, you would also
need to buy an extra 1MB of VRAM. (Which is also cheaper if you
circumvent HP).
