Try "The X WINDOW SYSTEM Programming and Applications with OSF/Motif"
by Douglas A. Young.  ISBN 0-13-497074-8

This is the best book I have seen.  It includes many examples and how
to's.  I ordered it with the ISBN number from my local book store ( it
took about 2 weeks )  The sources for all examples are available from
MIT ftp site which also helps.
