XINPUT - allows X to use more advanced input devices. Multiple buffering - Allows an application to update the screen in a non-visible memory buffer and then make it visible (needed for animation). Speed is essential, so using ordinary CPU memory is not feasible. Copying from off-screen memory to the screen is not so good, because of speed requirements and flickering. I know there have been some proposals in this area, but I haven't got their titles.
