It is worth remembering that "desert" does not mean "sand". Popular misconceptions to the contrary, much desert is rocky rather than sandy. Real live old-movie-style sand dunes cover only a modest fraction of the Sahara, for example. What things are like in the Kuwait area, I'm not sure.
