There should be no last names, period. We should abolish these silly relics of a barbaric, patriarchal era. Then, couples won't have to worry about which name to change, or give the kids, or whatever. My roommate, who is from India, has only one name. He tells me that in his ethnic group, the Tamils, this is common. It is also common in Myanmar(Burma) and parts of Indonesia and Mongolia.
