I notice that when you have a script line of the form

	die "blah\n" unless ($val = shift);

then when you feed this to Perl with the '-w' check option you see

	Possible typo: "ARGV" at sample.pl line (whatever).

This is with PL28.  Hardly a show-stopper but kind of silly.
