Since I am new to the field, I have been trying to find relevant literature. Although there are a lot of books on simulation in general, including general simulation of computer systems/networks, I have not been able to find any satifying literature pertaining to the particular problems of modelling SOFTWARE SYSTEMS, in particular of software systems which run on top of an existing OS and which in turn support other applications running on top of THEM. Could you all please point me to your favorite relevant references? I am interested both in books which cover the subject and in descriptions of actual models of such systems. Special interest is in tools, which are able to help in performance evaluation and reliability analysis. An example is Harp or for XPS INT3. Who knows publications, groups or experts? Who knows some works on this topic? I would apreciate addresses or hints. I am interested in information exchange and would sent my results. Many Thanks in advance. Keywords: simscript Date: 30 Aug 90 13:45:20 GMT Reply-To: motcid!reillyp@uunet.uu.net Distribution: comp Organization: Motorola Inc., Cellular Infrastructure Div., Arlington Heights, IL Some time ago I was suggesting that we use this group to talk about the specifics of some languages. Seems the group posts spend lots of time discussing esoteric matters from the world of academia. I am not complaining here, either. In fact this place is a great source of the cutting edge of simulation/modeling theory. Occasionally, however, I do have to hunker down and write some code and questions come up. My tool of choice is SIMSCRIPT II.5 for most models. I have plans to add SES/Workbench to my simulation suite of tools, too. Today's item is a qustion I have about SIMSCRIPT. I have complained loudly to the CACI, Inc. folks about the lack of any SIMSCRIPT source code tips, other than their dusty user's books. They truly need to conduct some advanced user's seminars and generate more documentation about the little known capabilities of the language. By posting here, we could all bring some pressure on them, too. (I know that Steve Covault, their tech spt. mgr., monitors this group) So here is my question to this group... How can I have simscript check for the presence of a file whose name has been entered interactively? I want to generate an error message if the file is not in the directory. Any ideas? I am operating on a SUN 3/470 running os4.0.3. ------------------------------ Posted-Date: 31 Aug 90 15:00:20 GMT To: comp-simulation@ucsd.edu Path: aero!aerospace.aero.org!abbott From: abbott@aerospace.aero.org (Russell J. I'm interested in being able to deal with these games at a play-by-play level. That is, I want to be able to simulate the movements of the individual players both in terms of (a) pre-set plays and (b) the ad hoc ways in which they interact. Of course, I'd like to express the models as declaratively as possible. Thanks for any suggestions. -- Russ Abbott@itro3.aero.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Sep 90 13:49:56 +0200 From: cap@chx400.switch.ch To: uunet!comp-simulation@uunet.UU.NET Newsgroups: comp.simulation Path: cap From: cap@ifi.unizh.ch Subject: Flight simulator Organization: University of Zurich, Department of Computer Science Date: Wed, 5 Sep 90 11:49:39 GMT Hi, I am looking for a flight simulator for a sparc station.
