a vi clone called elvis was recently posted to alt.sources.  I missed
this MSDOS compatable version myself, but there is considerable
favorable discussion about it floating around.  I have run an
earlier incarnation under minix, and was very (!!!) impressed.

It includes ex mode as well as vi mode.
