On the first point, the Sony cordless (or any other phone made for the North American continent) probably wouldn't work for you. I believe that the unit would not ring because even if 90vac is used, I think it is at a different frequency. Also I doubt it would dial out as European countries use a different dialing plan. On the second point, The phone to which you refer (for instance on miami vice) I think are AT&T Merlin units. These units are not "single line sets" like you and I have at the home. They require a separate cpu to run them called a "KSU" or Key Service Unit. Anyway, maybe I'm nuts. Good luck.
