Subject: what is a asynchronous fault

I am running DOMAIN 10.1 (or 10.2 i forget) and am
getting a asynchronous fault during my processing.
What else besides a control-Q can cause this?  The 
documentation is cryptic and the guy at customer support
asked me how to spell asynchronous.  

What happens is I am in an EC2$WAIT and I bomb out with a
asynchronous fault ocurred while waiting (OS/level2 eventcount manager)
what does this mean?
