The battery is soldered in, but it is easy to replace. I bought a battery holder of the appropriate size and de-soldered the old battery and replaced it with this new holder. Be sure you get the polarity correct. Luckily the holder will fit in the space provided overtop the IC. I don't remember the details on the holder or the battery #, take the battery to some electronics place and ask there.
